The Mizzen is an immaculately presented, utterly romantic, picture postcard cottage, decorated and finished with a deft touch and filled with light and art. Majestic views of the harbour and Torbay can be enjoyed from the lounge and bedroom.
Tucked away in a traffic free lane just above Brixham’s outer harbour and fish market, The Mizzen is a converted sail loft that enjoys the most spectacular sea views from a full width panoramic window in the first floor lounge. The large ground floor bedroom also benefits from wonderful sea views. By the way, the word Mizzen is the nautical term for the sail behind the mainsail.

The Mizzen is laid out in an ‘upside down’ fashion with the open plan lounge / kitchen / diner and bathroom located on the upper floor in order to take full advantage of the panoramic views. The large bedroom with a king size bed and a single bed are to be found on the ground floor, which also enjoys good sea views.

The new owners have furnished and decorated this romantic cottage with a deft touch and it oozes charm and character from every corner. Nautical themed artwork and paintings, squishy sofas, woven cushions and colourful fabrics give this cottage a wonderful ‘home from home’ feel that’s a cut above the average.

As with all of our properties, quality bed linen & towels are included as well as wi-fi, and all utilities. There is also fully controllable electric heating to all areas.

Parking - This property does not come with a parking space. However, you can order a virtual parking permit online at a cost of approx. £35 per week. These permits are valid for all of the 32 Torbay council pay and display car parks in the wider Torbay area including the 4 in Brixham – very useful if you plan to travel around the area. Full details and a web link will be sent with your arrival information approx. 6 weeks before your holiday begins.
Free safe and convenient on street parking is also available in surrounding roads.

Short breaks of 2 nights or more are available all year.

NOTE: Due to the steep internal stairs, this property is not suitable for children under 5 years or guests with mobility issues. It is also situated on a hill with fairly steep steps up from the harbour area. There are, however, plentiful cheap taxies available in Brixham that can drop you at the top of the steps and save you the walk.

Damage Deposit - your card will be pre-authorised for a £100 security deposit when you pay your balance. This authorisation is released within 7 days of departure.

Wonderful, upside down cottage. Fantastic views across the harbour and beyond. Carrie providing excellent customer service after arriving a little early, allowing us to enter property early. Nice touch having wine, biscuits, milk etc. on our arrival. Excellent directions to find cottage. Purchased parking permit, making parking so much easier. Take care using steps from the road, dropping off luggage, pretty steep, but manageable. Steps from the town end, at the bottom of the hill, very steep, but again manageable. Overall, lovely stay. Very comfortable and homely. Thank you Poppy, for allowing us to enjoy your holiday property.

Excellent upside down cottage for a couple. View is amazing and photos do not do it justice. Lots of extras provided by the owner which really adds to the comfort. Beware though there are a lot of steps to the property and car park is some way away. However all worth it to stay in a lovely place close to the town.

Very enjoyable stay at The Mizzen. The view, of course, was wonderful. Even the 97 steps from the harbour to the cottage wasn’t as bad as led to believe by other reviewers. Bedroom was spacious, kitchen had everything we needed, bathroom could be described as bijou, lounge area comfortable and had the views. The decor was lovely and very pleasing. Biscuits, flowers and a bottle of Prosecco left for us was a lovely gesture.

Located on Overgang Steps, a traffic free lane just above the outer harbour. It’s just a 3 minute walk to the many shops, cafes and restaurants in the central harbour area. There are steep steps to reach this property and it is not recommended for anyone with mobility issues.
